How Much Iodine Should You Take Each Day?
Iodine is critical for overall health, especially thyroid health. But the question is, how much should you be getting each day? This is an incredibly contentious topic because everyone seems to have a different opinion. What I'm going to do today is break down iodine dosing in a simple and easy-to-understand way so you understand how much you should be taking to minimize negative outcomes while maximizing positive ones.
When you look at the RDA for iodine you'll see that the recommended dosing should be between 150 and 270 (~300) mcg per day depending on whether or not you are a lactating woman or a pregnant woman. What’s the safe use of an iodine nasal spray?
This video and my entire account are likely to be deleted soon, the way YouTube took down my most important video ever, my interview with Jessica Rose, PhD, as "medical misinformation." Please make sure you stay connected to me at https://www.chrismasterjohnphd.com/uncensored
Question: What’s the safe use of an iodine nasal spray?
So, the iodine in the food and supplement guide for the coronavirus most recent version, I included iodine as a nasal spray. It's very important to look at the percentages. And so, 0.5% is the concentration recommended and that means that if you get a 10% solution, which is the most common one, you want to dilute it down 20-fold, which means taking one part of the 10% solution 19 parts water. If you have a different percentage starting solution, you wanna dilut...

In my opinion, the iodine clock reaction kind of looks like magic. To make it, the first thing I need is a mixture of cornstarch (just a bit), and some boiling water.

Iodine Use in Caries Prevention and Management by Dr. Jeremy Horst
Evidence exists, and more is emerging, on how the topical application of iodine is a safe and effective method to treat and prevent new caries formation on high-risk patients. The presentation will summarize the available and emerging evidence, the safety profile, the method of action and the application sequence/frequency to achieve optimal results. Explanation of how to code for this procedure with CDT D1355, a new CDT code effective on January 1, 2021 will be discussed. Strategies for how to bill and report will be explored.

Side Effects of Radioactive Iodine | UCLA Endocrine Center
For patients with thyroid cancer who have had surgery, radioactive iodine (RAI) treatment can help destroy remaining cancer cells. Common side effects of RAI include dry mouth, swelling and tenderness of the salivary gland, and temporary changes in taste. Other side effects include dry eyes and temporary fertility issues. These should resolve over time, says endocrine surgeon Masha Livhits, MD.
Some patients wonder if they can get another cancer, such as leukemia, from the radioactive iodine treatments. Most studies have found less than a one percent chance of developing another cancer from the RAI.
Each patient should work with their health care team to determine the risks and benefits of having radioactive iodine treatment. Discuss any concerns or questions you have with your provider...

Those who are lactating or pregnant require more than the average adult because they need to make up for what a developing child needs.
What happens when you don't get enough iodine? You will end up with a goiter and hypothyroidism which is not ideal.
What happens when you get too much? You increase your risk of developing autoimmune thyroid disease like Hashimoto's and Graves' disease.
How can you prevent these conditions? By sticking to the optimal range of 150 to 300mcg per day of total iodine intake.
This number takes into account your total iodine intake from ALL sources so make sure you account for hidden sources of iodine when determining your total intake.
Hidden sources of iodine include beauty products, foods, supplements, and medications.
If your total iodine intake is too high then you may benefit from temporarily reducing your iodine intake to metabolize the extra iodine out of your body.

01:11 Iodine is required for a variety of biologic functions
02:00 When you ingest iodine, there is an increase in TSH (thyroid signaling hormone), a pituitary hormone that triggers the increase in production of the TPO enzyme, thyroid peroxidase.
02:52 In T3 and T4, the T sands for tyrosine, an amino acid.
03:22 TPO makes tyrosine and free radicals. You have glutathione peroxidase and other antioxidants in your thyroid gland.

05:00 If you are going to take high doses of iodine, 12.5 mg or more, increase your selenium intake to 2 to 4 mcg and increase N-acetyl cysteine.
06:30 Iodine is important for cognition and growth, important for children.
07:00 Iodine can be used for water purification.
08:00 If you are vegan, vegetarian, you eat a lot of brassica foods (soy, wheat, millet, cassava) or smoke cigarettes, you are exposed to higher levels of goitrogens.

Yes, iodine is important for the thyroid, but let’s talk about the unexpected benefits of iodine for the rest of the body.
0:00 Introduction: Iodine explained
0:10 Do we need iodine?
1:37 How to tell if you’re deficient in iodine
3:12 Iodine benefits
6:05 Check out this comprehensive video on iodine!
Today I will cover the unexpected benefits of iodine. Iodine is a trace mineral. You don’t need a lot of iodine, but it is still very important for your health. If you don’t have the right amount of iodine, many different health issues can occur.
Every single cell in the body needs iodine. In my opinion, the daily recommended amounts for iodine are way too low. Unless you consume foods from the ocean, you’re not going to get very much iodine from your food.
The body utilizes iodine for many different things, including the detoxification of mercury, lead, fluoride, and bromide.
Unexpected health benefits of iodine:
1. It can help shrink cysts
2. It can help reduce the size of skin tags and warts
3. It can help break down the connective tissue in a condition called Dupuytren’s contracture
4. It supports scar regeneration
5. It can help lessen depression
6. It can help shrink stones in the parotid glands
7. It can help reduce hot flashes and heavy menstrual cycles by balancing estrogen
8. It can help reduce cystic acne

If you have a different percentage starting solution, you wanna dilute it differently. And it's critically important that you dilute it properly. And so, you should have someone double check your work if you're doing your own math or triple check your work because higher concentrations can cause damage to the nasal tissue. But in terms of how often what I recommend doing is using it as a before and after in potential exposures.

Discuss any concerns or questions you have with your provider — they are here to help you make the best treatment decisions possible.
